Perfect example of 17th-century Dutch classicism located on the Market in Maastricht. The building was completed in 1684. Height of the tower: 47 m. The design by architect Pieter Post attracted international attention. Tsar Peter the Great even had a copy of the City hall towers built. Checked fact: Hollywood cast in Maastricht! Scenes in the American war thriller Betrayed (1954) with leading roles for Clark Gable, Lana Turner and Victor Mature, were shot at the Maastricht Market and in a council chamber of the City hall.
