Rivieren Castle was already mentioned in 1364, when it was founded by Catharina van Rivieren, prioress of the monastery of St. Gerlach in Houthem. The original function of the building was a monastery. The current castle dates from the early 18th century. Rivieren Castle is one of the five castles in the town of Voerendaal.
